Yesterday NASA announced that New York City would be receiving one of the retired space shuttles. Hurrah! Or not. Seems not everyone is happy that we got the broken one. One Daily News columnist says, "Unbelievable... the best Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand could get us was a prototype. What's worse is that L.A. is getting a real one: The Endeavour. Where are they gonna put it, Disneyland?" Good point, but also: calm down lady. Tantrums are for children who want sugary cereal, not grown adults. Plus, does it really matter? [MORE] | We have a long-standing policy to stay the hell away from roving gangs of pimple-pinched teenagers. And for the most part, as long as we steer clear of places like the Cube at St. Marks and the mall at the Atlantic Center, that's been working out great for us! But these hooligans have slowly been encroaching into taxpaying citizen's spaces in Columbus Circle, with their skateboards and their eight tracks, and people are none too pleased to have to deal with these pubescent flies!... According to the New Haven Register, Michele Dufault was working on her senior thesis project when "hair got caught in a lathe, a piece of machinery that spins very quickly, and it pulled her in, sources said." The New Haven fire department responded to an emergency called in at 2:33 a.m. and found Dufault with no pulse. ... [ MORE ] | | You'll recall that Kyle Petersen is suing the city because he keeps getting tickets for riding his unicycle on the sidewalk. This is not a violation, because city ordinance only prohibits adults from riding two or three-wheel devices on sidewalks. Cops ticket him anyway, but instead of just pedaling on the street with the other wheeled conveyances, Petersen is fighting for his right to cycle. Last night, his crusade got some vital exposure on The Colbert Report, in a segment exposing how unicycles, which "used to be a shameful pastime for circus animals" are "seeping into the mainstream."... And he blasted the Republicans' deficit-reduction plans (Rep. Paul Ryan's "Path to Prosperity") which include tax breaks to the rich and corporations, "In the last decade, the average income of the bottom 90 percent of all working Americans actually declined. Meanwhile, the top 1 percent saw their income rise by an average of more than a quarter of a million dollars each. That’s who needs to pay less taxes? They want to give people like me a $200,000 tax cut that’s paid for by asking 33 seniors to each pay $6,000 more in health costs. That’s not right, and that’s not going to happen as long as I’m president."... Bryant was given a technical foul midway through the Lakers-Spurs game on Tuesday night, and could be seen on camera angrily yelling at ref Bennie Adams; he seems to have called him a “f**king f****t.” Watch the video below:... We ask because last weekend the Park Slope Civic Council hosted its annual Spring Civic Sweep, and that included a group going around the neighborhood painting over graffiti with heavy silver paint. They were supposed to be just cleaning up lamposts, but it appears they got more than a little over eager:... But the Daily News reports that nitpicking over the city's $35 million dollar appraisal of the land has slowed the agreement between the developer, Related, and the quaint little store that has carefully and courteously charmed this great nation. Don't these gadflies know that we need cheap oil drums of Strawberry Whoppers NOW?... [ MORE ] | | |
