Pathetic Pastor's Shenanigans Lead To UN Workers' Deaths

_Pathetic Pastor's Shenanigans Lead To UN Workers' Deaths
Last fall, extremist mustache enthusiast Pastor Terry Jones, who really put the idiot into ideologue, did his best to stir up national attention and controversy on the heels of the "Ground Zero Mosque" debate by threatening to burn the Koran. After he placed his tail between his legs, lost the majority of his congregation, and collected a free car, we thought we'd heard the last of this silly, pretty pathetic human being. But he just couldn't let go of the media spotlight, and after a dormant period, he finally burned a copy of the Koran. And now, several UN workers are dead as a result. [MORE]

The family of a Bronx third-grader who was handcuffed by police after a classroom fight is suing the NYPD. Sofia Bautista, who was a third-grader at Public School 132 in Morrisania last April, was arrested by police after she got into a fight with a classmate. “They arrested me and they shouldn’t have arrested me,” Bautista told CBS, describing what she calls the worst day of her life.... Brooklyn Baby Shower Goes "Sour," Three Shot

Three people are in the hospital with gunshot wounds during a robbery attempt outside of a baby shower in East Flatbush last night. One witness said of the incident, “It was just a baby shower that just went sour,” but somehow we don't think that completely sums it up. The victims, a 14-year-old girl and two adults, reportedly fled into the club—though the Post says it was a catering hall—where the party was being held to escape the bullets.... [ MORE ]

For the last 24 years, newsstand vendor Jerry Delakas has happily presided over a stand in Cooper Square. "I've spent more time on this corner than any corner on Earth. Charlie Sheen's First Cokehead Warlock Show A Massive Fail

What with military strikes, natural disasters and other real life stuff going on, we completely forgot about the whole Charlie Sheen public breakdown tour. Sadly, neither Sheen nor his rapidly dwindling fanbase forgot, and last night was the first stop of Sheen's "Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not An Option" traveling show in Detroit. And as you can imagine, everyone had an excellent, life-affirming absolutely miserable experience.... [ MORE ]

Photos, Video: International Pillow Fight Day 2011

Yesterday, International Pillow Fight Day held their New York fight in Union Square, and from the looks of it there were a lot of feathers to clean up. Hundreds of people showed up sporting pajamas, costumes and pillows (or makeshift pillows) for some lighthearted fun, all protected by a police blockade and a group of gawking passersby. ... [ MORE ]

Time To Get Away: LCD Soundsystem Bid Farewell Tonight

After a decade of Daft Punk references, white suits and Muppet videos, James Murphy announced the dissolution of LCD Soundsystem a little over a month ago. And now, with ticket scalping drama and four celebratory, three-hour-long shows at Terminal 5 past, their alleged final show ever as a band will take place tonight at MSG. But even if you didn't get tickets, you can watch an exclusive stream of the whole show at Pitchfork starting at 9 p.m. In the meantime, you can check out the collective mourning process going on across the internet. ... After Fuselage Rupture, Southwest Grounds 79 Planes

Southwest Airlines grounded dozens of airplanes yesterday and cancelled 300 flights after a three-foot hole ripped in the fuselage of a Boeing 737 headed from Phoenix, AZ to Sacremento, CA. The hole, which was in roof of the passenger cabin, caused a decrease of pressure in the plane, and a passenger and flight attendant fainted while some passengers were awakened by the "gunshot-like sound." Southwest said it "decided to keep a subset of its Boeing 737 fleet out of the flying schedule to begin an aggressive inspection effort in cooperation with Boeing engineers."... [ MORE ]
