_After Student's Fatal Freak Accident, Questions About Yale's Shop Safety
Last week, a senior died in a workshop at a Yale University chemistry building. Michele Dufault, who was working on her senior project, had been using a lathe late at night when her hair got caught and died of "asphyxia due to neck compression." The school has launched an investigation and review into its safety practices as some wonder whether Yale students should be allowed 24-hour access to shops and whether they should be working without supervision. Bronx Teens Overturn Van After Night Of Graffiting

Three Bronx teens got into a car accident on the Bruckner Expressway early yesterday morning after an apparent evening of tagging. One of the trio, 16-year-old Shaadieq Hicks, is in a coma after he was thrown from the backseat and through the windshield when the van overturned; the driver may be facing manslaughter charges if Hicks dies. "They're saying my baby might not pull out. His heart stopped twice today. They said he won't be the same," Hicks' distraught mother, 31-year-old Shinkikwah Burke, told the News.... [ MORE ]

White Plains Officers Admit, Give Insights Into Ticket Quotas

Despite the lawsuits, recordings of station meetings, leaked documents, threatened boycotts, and jury rulings, the NYPD higher-ups have continually denied the existence of ticket quotas. But now, even Westchester officers have admitted to the quotas. One White Plains cop gave some insights to LoHud into the problems with a system that embraces quotas: "There's definitely a quota. Because of the pressure, people are writing 'bad' tickets—for things like parking more than 12 inches from the curb or with a tire touching the line. Those are BS tickets that we normally wouldn't write. It's really just harassing the public."... [ MORE ]

Belly Dancing Blogger Defends Her Belly Undulating

Yesterday, we heard the tale of Reikki healer Dorothy McGurk, an allegedly "disabled" divorcee who found spiritual healing and happiness through shaking her belly button lint. The Staten Island woman claimed that she was too injured to work again, but lost out on lifetime alimony when her ex-husband discovered her belly dancing blog, complete with glowing testimonials and pictures of her front rump in action. But McGurk told the News that everyone was just confused by the pics: "I wasn't really belly-dancing in them. I was posing. In some of them I was moving a veil around with my arms, but I wasn't belly-dancing."... [ MORE ]
