Yesterday, New Yorkers for Marriage Equality, a part Human Rights Campaign, released a video with former President George W. Bush's daughter Barbara announcing her support for gay marriage. Barbara Bush, who lives in Manhattan, says in the video, "I am Barbara Bush, and I am a New Yorker for marriage equality. New York is about fairness and equality. And everyone should have the right to marry the person that they love." Herron was killed, and Francis was charged with driving with a suspended license but claimed she had nothing to do with the accident and quickly left the scene to attend a party. Francis has now been indicted on felony charges of leaving the scene of an accident. But according to Francis's lawyer, "It's obvious she was at the scene."... Sadly, it just happens a lot. In 2009 alone, 90 people were struck by trains and 40 of them died. In an effort to lower those numbers the MTA is going back to the idea well and is asking for proposals for a system of sliding doors on subway platforms. Like in other cities (and at AirTrain stops), the sliding glass doors would go on the edge of the platform and would only open when a train was in the station.... We'll update with the date, as well as the location, later today (along with a photo credit and link to the source site... which will prove it's not Photoshopped!).... According to the nun, she made up the story to cover up a consensual sex romp she'd had with a bodega worker she slipped into her convent. Not crazy enough for you? Well, according to the nun's convent, the Apostles of Infinite Love in East Flatbush, neither the rape nor the bumping and grinding with the bodega boy is true. ... According to NBC New York, "Intelligence officials stress the threats are general in nature and there is 'no indication of a targeted assassination plot' against any Wall Street executive. But NBCNewYork.com has learned officials fear the names of some top banking executives have been discussed by terror operatives overseas."... [ MORE ] | | In a surprise twist, Brooklyn College has rehired the professor who was previously unhired after Assemblyman Dov Hikind complained about his alleged anti-Israeli leanings. The college has maintained that Kristofer Petersen-Overton, 26, was fired from teaching a Middle East politics seminar because he didn't have a Ph.D.—not because of his political beliefs. The Political Science Department had unanimously voted to approve Petersen-Overton to teach the seminar, but last week—within 24 hours after Hikind complained—the administration overruled the vote. Accusations of academic repression flew, and a petition in support of Petersen-Overton drew 1,700 signatures. Hikind's not happy, and tells us:... [ MORE ] | | |
