Last month, members of the group Answers Coalition protested outside of the Third Avenue bar the Continental, accusing the bar of having a racist door policy. Owner Trigger Smith was defiant in the face of their criticisms of his "unwritten dress code," and there was another demonstration yesterday outside the club. And now, it seems that the City Commission on Human Rights has been investigating the allegations of racial discrimination. [MORE] | The latest PSA warning New Yorkers about the side-effects of excessive soda consumption seems a little boring at first. While their last spot skewed zany, with a guy pouring sugar packets into his mouth to emphasize the high sugar content of some beverages, this one starts out showing a day in the life of some random slob who pairs his depressing breakfast, lunch, and dinner with various sugary drinks. Ho-hum. Then an obese man in a motorized wheelchair appears, to demonstrate one possible outcome of such an unhealthy lifestyle. Depressing enough, but where's the shock value? Well, fasten your seat belts for the 18 second mark, when... Well, we won't spoil it, but hopefully all those carbonated beverages have given you got a strong stomach: ... Two sergeants and one officer fired back as they chased him, and Melendez was shot down on Third Avenue near 120th Street.... Just come on down to the Crossroads of the West Gun Show in Phoenix, Arizona, where undercover investigators working with Mayor Bloomberg's administration had no problem buying Glocks like the kind used by Jared Loughner in the Tuscon massacre. All you need to do is show some I.D. to exploit what some lawmakers call the "gun show loophole." In fact, one investigator was able to pay cash for a 9 mm semiautomatic even after telling the seller he probably wouldn't pass a background check. Instead of refusing the sale, as required by federal law, the gun peddler pockets the $500 and directs his shady customer toward the tent with the cheap ammunition. Watch:... Which means if you want to blame someone for the fact that nobody ever shoveled your bus stop (let alone the mountain of snow in front of it), blame Cemusa. ... [ MORE ] | | |
