Historic First: Gay Cats Get Gay Marriage!

_Historic First: Gay Cats Get Gay Marriage!
Gov. Andrew Cuomo is hoping to bring gay marriage to a vote by the summer, but until then, maybe we can learn something from the cats. Bruno and Solomon, two male felines who reside at Ollie's Place, a no-kill cat shelter on E 26th Street, became the first same-sex married cat couple this week! [MORE]

New Bizarre Drug Trend: Bath Salts

We've heard of some strange crazes over the last year: Four Loko, breast milk cheese, vodka eyeballing, synthetic marijuana, and of course, spaghetti tacos. But now officials have pinpointed the next great weird drug trend: bath salts...wait, uh, bath salts? ... [ MORE ]

Bitterly Cold Today, Insanely Colder Tomorrow

According to WCBS 2, we'll be experiencing the coldest day and night of the winter today! "New York City will have a high of 25 degrees—13 below the average—and has already seen its low Sunday morning at 16 degrees. Meanwhile, a frigid arctic wind is keeping temperatures anywhere from below 0 to single digits and into the teens as the Tri-State bundles up for the cold. The wind chill will be -10 to -20 in parts of the upstate while the Tri-State will feel a wind chill anywhere from 0 to -10 degrees." And tomorrow morning may be in the single digits!... [ MORE ]
_Will We Ever Find The City's Best Burger?

Will We Ever Find The City's Best Burger?

Finding the "city's best" of anything is a daunting task, requiring months or years of scouring every diner, deli and overpriced restaurant many times over. In just the past two years news outlets have named Peter Luger, Burger Joint, Best Burger and Shakes, and Bagatelle as having the best, and now the Daily News is getting in on the action for 2011. They recently named West Village standby Corner Bistro's burger the best in the city, which they call the "kind of fresh off-the-grill burger that reminds you of backyard BBQs." What, no Kobe?... Washington Heights: Decrepit Or Just Whiny?

According to city data, Washington Heights residents have called 311 the most since the program started in 2005, complaining of things like heating, noise and construction. (And we're guessing dog poop.) Some complaints seem normal; mother Reina Martin has called 15 times to complain about lack of heat and water in her building. However, other complaints have the city's younsters coming off as incredibly unhip. Older residents say all the newcomers do is complain about people blasting salsa music and loud trucks rolling down the streets. Well yeah, they need to do their yoga in peace!... [ MORE ]
_Neighbor Could Shutter Carnegie Deli

Neighbor Could Shutter Carnegie Deli

We've always preferred Katz's, but the threat of famed Carnegie Deli closing still has us a little verklempt. The deli has had a longstanding arrangement with nextdoor neighbors Woodward Affiliates, who allow Carnegie to use some of its property for extra seating and a required second emergency exit for $2,500 a month. But as the two sides were working out a new deal with the Buildings Department last week, Woodward allegedly bailed and Carnegie filed a suit. The suit claims, "The failure to obtain a public assembly permit may, and likely will, result in the closure of the Carnegie Deli."... [ MORE ]
_Coyotes Cross The East River Into Queens

Coyotes Cross The East River Into Queens

Coyotes have terrorized the fine people of Harlem, Rye and Columbia University, but now the wily canis latrans have crossed over into the borough of Queens. The critter was recently found in Calvary Cemetery, and wildlife expert Paul Curtis says the coyote was probably born last spring and kicked out of his home to make room for new cubs. Curtis also says he's most likely looking for a mate, and may scratch up some pet dogs in the process. Young guy on his own for the first time and looking for love? He should check out Murray Hill.... [ MORE ]

What is the deal with these bed bug rumors? Early this morning, a person claiming to be an employee at Lexington Avenue's posh Gramercy Park Hotel sent us an anonymous email accusing the hotel of dealing with bed bugs poorly, to put it nicely. The employee writes:... [ MORE ]
