_F Train Hell Begins for Windsor Terrace, Smith Street Stops
The MTA is entering the next phase of its highly dreaded renovation of the Culver Viaduct, which the F and G trains use as they ascend to the highest subway stop in NYC, at Smith-9th Street in Carroll Gardens. The necessary rehabilitation work will seriously inconvenience residents in this part of Brooklyn for months if not years, starting next Monday with the discontinuation of Manhattan-bound F and G service at Smith-9th Street, 15th Street Prospect Park, and Ft. Hamilton Parkway stations. This phase will last until May (or so they say!), and people are pissed. Sparkdance's Flickr [UPDATE BELOW] Veteran Village Voice reporter Wayne Barrett has been let go from the increasingly desiccated tabloid, and the paper's other major investigative reporter, Tom Robbins, has quit in protest, the Times reports. Albany Is Totally Not Kosher

As his last gift to the state for 2011, former Governor Paterson's budget cuts eliminated nine officials from the state's kosher law enforcement division, leaving only the director in charge of making sure grocery stores and restaurants in the state properly disclose kosher certification.
